Museum Insider: Jacqueline de Ribes The Art of Style
By Donna Rocco The Costume Institute’s latest exhibition gives you an insider view of style icon Countess Jacqueline de Ribes. This countess ran her own design business from the early eighties until the mid-nineties. She was a muse, business women, interior designer and television producer. These images are of some of the gowns and dresses that are part of her collection. The exhibit is located in gallery 980-981 of the Metropolitan Museum and closes February 21st. Museum Insider – In and Out of the Studio: Photographic Portraits from West Africa
The show spans one hundred years of West African photography from 1870s to the 1970s. The fascinating images of West African culture were taken by both amateur and professionals photographers and give a glimpse of the people, fashion and society we rarely get to see. There are seven subcategories within the exhibit: Pioneers of Photography; Postcards; Amateur Practices; Studio Practices in Senegal; Malick Sidlbe; Seydou Kieta and Oumar Ka; Studio Practices in the 1970s. The work includes portrait, landscape, self-portraits, staged images and snapshots in many formats.
