She uses alternative photographic processes and digital manipulation. Sue has been involved in making art on the computer for over twenty-seven years. She holds a BFA and a MFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art and is Professor and Chair of the Department of Art and Art History at McDaniel College, in Westminster, Maryland. Sue’s book, Digital Collage and Painting, by Focal Press, was released in 2006, and has been translated into Chinese and Russian. This 608 page book is seen as the Bible for digital collage and painting manipulation. A second, revised version was released in October 2010. Sue is also the author of Digital Painting in Photoshop ( 2009). Sue writes articles for leading photography magazines including Shutterbug and After Capture, is a regular contributor to Australia’s Better Photoshop Techniques and conducts live webinars. Claudia Sohrens is a German-born visual artist and educator, who lives and works in New York. Sohrens received a BFA in Communications Design from IN.D, in Hamburg, and an MA in Media and Communications from the European Graduate School in Switzerland, where she is currently a PhD candidate. She is faculty in the Full-Time General Studies Program at the International Center of Photography, in the Photography Department at Parsons The New School for Design and in the Communications Design Department at Pratt Institute.

CORRECTING YOUR DIGITAL FILE FOR PRINT OR PUBLICATION with ANDREW DARLOW Thursday January 25th
Adobe Photoshop Lightroom is a powerful application with many features to help photographers work more efficiently. Lightroom can open up many creative options, and in many areas, it can take the place of Photoshop. In this four hour workshop, award-winning author and photographer Andrew Darlow will cover these and other topics: Limited to 12 attendees. This workshop is designed for those who are using Lightroom in some way, but want to learn how to “supercharge” it.* How to make sure your photos are ready to be imported into a Lightroom Catalog;
* An overview of Lightroom’s Develop Module color correction features, including how to make selective color/contrast adjustments; * Specific tips for using the Spot Removal tool (Clone and Heal options), Graduated Filter tool and Adjustment Brush (all located in the Develop Module); * Sample workflows and sharpening techniques for popular types of photos, including: portraits, landscapes and flowers; * Tips for using presets, as well as batch processing; * Tips for converting to black and white; * How to save Presets and apply them to one or many images; and * How to use Virtual Copies, Collections and Smart Collections. Andrew Darlow is a photographer, author and digital imaging consultant. He is the former Editorial Director of Digital Imaging Techniques Magazine, and the current editor of ImagingBuffet.com, an online imaging magazine. His photography and how-to articles have been featured in numerous magazines and websites, including Photo District News, PDN Gear Guide, Popular Photography, Rangefinder, and Studio Photography magazine. For more than 15 years he has taught thousands how to improve their photography, workflow and digital print output at conferences, industry events, and educational institutions, including the PDN PhotoPlus Expo, the Arles Photo Festival (Arles, France), Columbia University, and the International Center of Photography in New York. | Imaginings Photography Exhibit at Center of Cuban Studies | ||
In the fall of 2011, Professional Women Photographers sponsored two trips to Cuba and 40 photographers journeyed to Havana, Trinidad, and Cienfuegos.
The work of 22 of these photographers will be on exhibition at The Cuban Art Space Of the Center of Cuban Studies, 231 West 29th Street, 4th Floor, from January 6 – 20 and although this is not a PWP-sponsored exhibition we are very excited to announce it here and hope to see you at the opening!The opening reception is January 12 from 6-8 pm.For more details see our blog article here.
