closeI am a New York-based photographer interested in light, space, and movement and the beauty and grace hidden in quiet places where spirit is easy to access. For a long time, I lived on the water, facing the north wind. It was a fierce and beautiful environment and opened a place in me that led to creating pictures. Now I work to capture the breath of my subjects, whether I am in my studio or out exploring the power of place. Sometimes I work in black and white and sometimes I work in color. I like the freedom of digital and the discipline of film. My preferred lighting is natural. I believe each picture should be strong enough to stand on its own, creating its own environment and telling its own story. If I'm lucky enough to make pictures that belong together, they become a series and sometimes a project. I print my own images, completing the arc of the process and staying close to the pictures from beginning to end. Sometimes I make handsewn books of images and text to signify the completion of a project. I hope my work opens a portal to a welcoming yet challenging place of reflection for the viewer.
