"The ultimate experience of anything is a realization of what's behind it." That quotation by Minor White describes how I look at things "out there." That is the perspective that informs my work. For me as an image-maker, it's that moment of resonance between the inner eye and the outer "reality" that excites me. My camera (plus the opportunities in post-production) is the go between. In any given scene or circumstance, or even with everyday objects, appearances tease you to reveal - or imagine- what is hidden. A shift of light can draw your attention to what's otherwise invisible. I prefer to shoot in natural or low light, favoring mood over content and trying to bring forward my experience of a person or place. Portraits, usually of people I love in places they love, are favorite personal projects. Travels in India inspired my husband and me to collaborate on a traveling exhibition shown in four venues including the United Nations. I am especially drawn to seascapes, often in Maine, or any place where light and water play. Though I live in and love New York, Maine is where I was born and raised and a piece of my heart is always there. I enjoy travelling and photographing all over the world, but Maine is still my muse and I return yearly with my family for renewal and inspiration.
