6:30: Lecture by Mariette Pathy Allen

For more than 30 years, New York based photographer Mariette Pathy Allen has been documenting transgender culture worldwide. She has photographed teens in various cultures and is working with transgender veterans. In 2004 she won the Lambda Literary Award for her monograph The Gender Frontier. In her new publication, TransCuba, she captures the transgender community of Cuba through vibrant color photographs accompanied by a personal essay and interviews. She focuses on the details of the everyday lives of her subjects engaging with family, friends and the community at large. Mariette is one of the founders of PWP and was president for many years.

Susan Sermoneta will be the curtain raiser.

The lecture is free for PWP members, $10 for non-members (pay at the door). It is open to the public, and guests are welcome. It will take place on Wednesday, February 5th at 6:30 pm, at the Metropolitan Opera Guild. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. for new members, members and guests to meet PWP board members and get acquainted before the lecture. Contact info@pwponline.org for more information.
