A full day of galleries and  photography time in the historic town and its waterfront.  

Gallery tour  lead by Claudia Sohrens . Some artists and curators available.

Departure from Grand Central Station 8:30 AM.  Arv. Beacon 10 AM

Return to GCS at will. Stay as late as you want.  return train schedule supplied.

PWP fee $95.00.  Non members $110.

Fee  includes round trip on Metro North, all fees (Dia) and gallery comments and conversation.

A full day of galleries, anchored by Dia Museum (home to contemporary work from the 1960's to present) and exploring Beacon, a historic town located on the banks of the Hudson River. Beacon, revitalized over the last decade,  now has many galleries, artists' studios, cooperatives. small stores, restaurants and more. It still retains its small town essence.

Beacon sits with the famous Mount Beacon as its backdrop and the Hudson River as its front door.   Both the village area and the riverside dock offer creative photography opportunities.

The main street, where most of the galleries, stores and restaurants sit, was once two villages named, appropriate to the landscape,  Mountain Town (the East end) and River Town (the West end).  Although it is very walkable, a shuttle bus runs the length of the street.

Beacon was named to commemorate the historic beacon fires that blazed forth from the summit of the Fishkill Mountains to alert the Continental Army about British troop movements.  Its factories outfitted the Union Army during the Civil War.

A walk through town will confirm Beacon's role during the Industrial Age. The city considers these old factory buildings monuments to its  heritage, and is actively protecting them. Also right in town is Madam Brett's Homestead, which predates the Revolutionary War. The Howland Cultural Center may be the best-known historic structure in the city.

The Metro-North, follows the shore of the Hudson River.  The train station in Beacon is steps from the waterfront dock and the end of Main Street

Below is the return schedule for Beacon-Grand Central Station.  There are evening trains as well if anyone  wants to stay later -sunset/dinner, etc.
