Bring the PWP Story to the World

Your sponsorship makes this documentary possible. Help us preserve and share this story for the next 50 years.
From Barriers to Breakthroughs
In 1975, fed up with being relegated to menial roles in the professional photography industry, a group of women led by Dannielle Hayes organized a groundbreaking exhibition at New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology, featuring the work of more than 100 women photographers.
Refusing to accept the status quo, they continued meeting monthly, sharing job leads, technical knowledge, and most importantly, support and encouragement. After years of gathering under various names, they officially became Professional Women Photographers (PWP) in 1981.
Today, PWP continues that legacy of community, education, and visibility, creating space for women and non-binary photographers to learn, grow, and thrive together.
