Past Workshops - Lighting and Creative Vision for digital photographers

Saturday, January 12. 10 AM - 4;30 PM.
Lighting and Creative Vision for digital photographers

A full day workshop on controlling the light with your digital on-camera strobe (Flash).
Bobbi Lane

To understand how to control the light is to broaden your creative vision. "Seeing" the image whether in natural light or use of light modifiers will help you capture your vision and remove many limitations.

In this one-day workshop, participants will learn how to control and modify the light with their portable flash units. This is both a review of the basics and some advanced instruction. This includes all the buttons and dials, how the flash works and the different exposure methods. Discussion and demonstrations will focus on the two primary ways to use a flash: as a main light source in low light situations and as a fill-flash. We will also learn about using the flash by bouncing light, use of reflectors and diffusers and various lighting ratios.

We will learn about using the flash both on the camera and off-camera to create different lighting patterns, and how to choose the right power for each scene. Dragging the shutter, or balancing strobe and ambient light and other special effects will be covered.

Participants will be given a lighting assignment to bring into class.
