Think portfolios, presentations, collections, gifts and more. Photographers are now showcasing their work on the pages of a real book. Whether the need is for a single book or multiple copies, it is now made possible by a number of companies (old and new) who have developed templates and on-line services for photographers to design and send to print a book reflecting their own style. The turn around time is short and cost affordable.
During this two-day workshop students will design and send to print a small edition photography book with Adobe Creative Suite (CS3) and other share or freeware options like iPhoto, MyPublisher, and more.
A good portfolio is your most valuable tool to promote your work. In this course students will learn how to develop and design an efficient and enjoyable showcase that will reflect their skills, accomplishments and professional goals and send it to print using on-line services or your home printer.
DAY ONE: discuss various stages and visual process involved in design and production and layout templates in combination with various online print services. Through demonstration we will cover correct setting for resolution, color modes, print profiles as well as how to design and export for print output, including bleed, trim and text safe areas. Several on-line services will be discussed.
DAY TWO: Students will bring in a lap top and content. All images must be retouched and corrected prior to the class. We will edit, insert and place text and images into the layout and sequence the pages to create a visual flow for the book. We will also choose a cover image and design the dust jacket. At the end of this workshop we will have covered the entire workflow and all files should be ready for print.
All designs can be re-used, extended or updated at a later time with different or more images.
The class is taught by Claudia Sohrens, educator, video artist and photographer.
