OUR WOMEN'S
HISTORY MONTH PARTNERS
This March, PWP joins with three women's groups, A.I.R. (Artists in Residence), the National Women's History Project and artW of artDC to promote and advocate Women in the Arts through a variety of events. This is the first time that Women and the Arts is the focal point for Women's History Month and the first time that PWP will participate.
As the only photography organization taking part in this celebration we will have a wonderful opportunity to expand PWP's brand in the NY art scene. Who would be better to represent us than our valuable members? We want you to be a part of this, so see the details on participation opportunities listed below and come be part of the fun!
The events we are a part of include (see calendar for dates and specifics):
PWP's exhibit 2007NEWWORK2008 at the Chelsea
Gallery Space where we will be a stop on the Art Walk Chelsea and will have events
in the gallery for PWP members

History Project, Honoring Ceremony of 12 women artists at the Puck Building

Building

meet Molly MacGregor, founder of National Women's History Month followed by a
trip to Sackler Center for Feminist Art at the Brooklyn
Museum.
OUR WOMEN'S HISTORY MONTH PARTNERS
A.I.R., Artists In Residence: has been advocating women in the visual arts since 1972. A.I.R. Gallery shares in PWP's mission to support and promote women artists, and is hosting a Gala for women in the arts at the Puck Building on March 28th. PWP and A.I.R. have many things in common and we look forward to coordinating exhibitions and events with them in the future. We are excited to present selections from the 2007NEWWORK2008 exhibition and to have an information table about PWP during the day long event.
National Women's History Project: was founded in 1980 to broadcast women's historical achievements. The NWHP started by leading a coalition that successfully lobbied Congress to designate March as National Women's History Month. Since 1987, the nation has celebrated National Women's History Month as an annual event each March.
This year, National Women's History Project will be honoring twelve women artists, including photographer Lorna Simpson, at a High Tea and Honoring Ceremony on March 28, part of the day long event at the Puck Building An excerpt from the NWHP website (www.nwhp.org) regarding the focus this year:
To honor the originality, beauty, imagination, and multiple dimensions of women's lives, we have chosen Women's Art: Women's Vision as the 2008 theme for National Women's History Month.
The history of women and art is quintessential women's history. It is the story of amazing women's accomplishments acclaimed at the time but written out of history.
ArtW of artDC: is a special project within Washington's new art fair, artDC, now in its second year. ArtW pays tribute to contemporary and historical women artists and is the title sponsor of the Art Walk Chelsea.
PWP'S ROLE

The PWP Exhibitions and Development committees have arranged for these wonderful opportunities (two exhibitions, discounts, partnerships, publicity and opportunities for self promotion at the National Women's History Month events). They are added benefits to our fundraising plans with Umbrella Arts+ (Arts + Projects) for a National Open Call. We believe it is an exciting opportunity to bring PWP into the national eye, and for what better reason than this year's Women's History Month focus - Women's Art: Women's Vision? It's an amazing time of growth for women, AND our organization.
While the oversight of all these fantastic events is organized by the Board, it is our member participation that will catch the eye of the public. We rely on you to be our advocates and it's your achievements as artists that speak volumes for this organization, so join us and help make this a success!
