A native New Yorker (born in the Bronx), I have a B.A. in psychology (Cornell University), a Master’s in Urban Education (Yeshiva), and have worked as a teacher, cowherd (on a kibbutz), English lecturer (in Swedish pubic schools), artist’s model (in 4 countries), Checker cab driver, publishing house editor, and freelance writer on cultural subjects. Finally I made my passion my profession and turned full-time to photography, with a specialty in author photographs for book jackets and publicity use. I have exhibited my portraits of writers in Frankfurt, Guadalajara, Cuba and the United States. Not quite a decade ago I broadened my focus to include New York City, beginning with my own neighborhood, Hell’s Kitchen. I have exhibited my photographs of New York - people on the street, urban landscapes, bridges, parks, buildings - at the Columbus Branch of the NYPL; at the Sewanee Writers Conference, for which I am a photographer; at the office gallery of Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer; in the lobby of the New World Stages theatre complex, and elsewhere. My photographs are in university and private collections in Europe, Mexico and the United States. My subject matter may be familiar, but the viewpoint is often revelatory.
