Deborah Allen is a widely-published natural history photographer specializing in birds. Her photos have appeared in trade books and encyclopedias, as well as in magazines and newspapers including: Africa Birds and Birding, American Birds, Avenue, Birding, Defenders, Islands, Hawk Mountain News, National Geographic Explorer, National Parks, National Wildlife, Natural History, New York Times, North American Birds, Quebec Oiseaux, Terre Sauvage, WildBird, and Zoogoer. She is a frequent contributor to Bird Watcher’s Digest and Birder’s World.
Her talk, Birds around Town, will feature the bird life of New York City and will include raptors nesting on buildings and bridges: Red-tailed Hawks, American Kestrels and Peregrine Falcons. Situated on the Atlantic flyway, New York City, with its extensive parkland, is an ideal place for viewing and photographing migratory birds, and is home to a surprising variety of nesting birds in summer. Deborah will discuss the basics of bird photography: lighting, color, composition, and capturing action and behavior. To see an on-line portfolio of her photos go to www.agpix.com/deballen
