Monthly Meetings
Cali Gorevic, Man and Nature; Flora and Fauna
May 4, 2006
These are the predominant themes in the photography of Cali Gorevic. Her subject matter is taken from nature and transformed in her darkroom. She is drawn to mysterious places, such as wildernesses that do not appear on maps and forest landscapes where there is magic afoot--where, after the sun sets, sprites and satyrs appear and trees dance. She makes black and white photographs of these places using medium format or infrared film. Her emphasis is on darkroom work which she feels best expresses her artistic vision. In her darkroom, she relies on memory and imagination and uses various techniques to convey the enhanced reality that she experienced in the forest. She creates silver emulsion and giclee prints.
Cali studied photography with Bruce Barnbaum, John Sexton and Chip Forelli, has participated in numerous juried exhibitions and has had more than ten solo shows including those at The Chameleon Gallery in Bantam Ct; The Garrison Art Center in Garrison NY; M Studio Gallery in Beacon, NY; The Citibank Financial Center in New York City, The Light Fantastic Gallery in Flemington NJ; La Romana, Dominican Republic; and the John Harms Center for the Arts in Englewood NJ. She teaches photography privately and at the Garrison Art Center in Garrison NY.
