Marjorie Ryerson, Water Music
February 2, 2006

Marjorie Ryerson is a magazine photographer, an award-winning professor, poet and journalist living in Vermont. The most popular book by Marjorie Ryerson, Water Music, is a collection of Marjorie’s photos of water combined with the writings of 66 world-renowned musicians—Dave Brubeck, Carol Maillard of Sweet Honey In The Rock, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Sarah Chang, Paul Winter and others—all of whom contributed poems, essays and songs to Marjorie’s book, creatively describing the meaning of water in their lives.

Marjorie donates all of her net royalties from the sale of Water Music to the Water Music Fund of the United Nations. The fund, in turn, is used to help provide safe drinking water for families, worldwide. Marjorie is also the executive director of the Water Music Project, and she presents concerts with musicians and gives lectures at many universities and cultural events around the world. She has just completed a major European Water Music concert tour. She is also the recipient of the international 2005 Harry E. Schlenz Medal for Public Education about the importance of water quality.

Marjorie will share with us the story of how she created Water Music.
