Barbara Koppelman's Spring Editing Offer
This is the seventh year Barbara is offering her consulting/editing special to members of PWP who haven't yet seen Barbara professionally or within the last twelve months, that's okay too. Winter has finally ended and this is a perfect time to regroup and refocus. I usually only make this offer in the Fall but I've had several emails about it and have decided to offer it again this Spring since so much was happening this year.
Here's Barbara's offer:
"For four consecutive hours I'll come and tackle any photographic issues with you for $200. This is half my usual rate and for PWP members only. If you live outside the city, transportation time and costs are additional. Four hours is an excellent amount of time, to meet, take a look at your work without pressure, talk to you about what you've already done and what you really want to accomplish - what's worked and what hasn't and why.
I will work with you to edit, organize, or define areas to concentrate on, as well as ways to successfully market your work. I will pick portfolios, evaluate your website or help you decide what images and key words are best to use on a website, help you choose stock agencies, magazines and book publishers, choose photos for grants, contests, upcoming shows or special presentations. Above all, I'll help you sort out priorities and immediate steps you can take in your photographic career. And if something isn't working out for you, we'll try to find out why.
I've done this for at least 20 years. My clients range from beginners to internationally known photographers in every field of photography. I've curated shows, judged photographic events, worked with photographers on book projects, on websites, worked on various projects for major stock agencies, done children's books and have been photo editor of corporate books for PepsiCo, Radio City Music Hall and the Girl Scouts. I was one of Christo's photo editors for his "Gates" project. I was asked to speak at the Camera Club of New York and Positive Focus in Brooklyn about what to do after you've created "the perfect portfolio" and how to evaluate and to choose the best stock agency for your needs. Last year I gave a talk on marketing & selling your work called What Would You Do With This Image?
It's a given that taking great shots is really just the first, if most important aspect, in launching a photographic identity and career. Most photographers, of whatever level, often function in a vacuum. You would be surprised at how much the interaction with a professional editor, who has a fresh experienced eye, can clarify and motivate you to take the next step.
Here are some recommendations either sent to me directly or posted on our e-group after our session. I'm including them to give you an idea of what working together can generate, and that every experience is different, as it should be."
Testimonials:
"I have been working with Barbara Koppelman for over two years. She has been an essential part of my continuous progression in reaching my goals. She brings enthusiasm and energy to every meeting. Time spent working together is very productive. We have worked on pricing, website design, and image selections for exhibits. I highly recommend making the investment in your project or career and spend a few hours with Barbara. She will have you organized, focused and ready for the next step. Always a pleasure, Barbara is a true treasure!" *Christine Wexler 2007 *
"I have just had my work reviewed by Barbara Koppelman and if any of you are debating having this done, she is the one to do it. I was terrified at first. No one wants to have negative comments about their art. She is wonderful. Never a negative word, only constructive criticism. She helped me with my website and organizing my work so it made sense, and she's fun to be with! She really knows her business. Thanks Barbara." *Pat Gilman 2006 *
"I had an editing session with Barbara two weeks ago, not knowing quite
what
to expect as I had never done anything like this before. I was preparing
for a solo show and the timing was perfect. We spent hours editing photos
and planning the hanging of the show It was invaluable to me. We talked
about pricing, other marketing ideas and I came away with other avenues to
pursue.
Most importantly, Barbara taught me to value myself as a photographer and
gave me that validation that I sorely needed I am now ready to stretch and
push myself in directions that have never occurred to me before. Barbara
is
an incredible resource and I encourage you to take advantage of her
expertise!"

"I wanted to send this out to everyone just in case they missed it. Two days ago I met with Barbara and I found it to be a truly valuable experience. She helped me clear up the clutter of images in my web portfolio archives. From our meeting I have gained new insight and inspiration. I highly recommend her to anyone who is feeling lost or simply frustrated." *Sara Kell 2006 *
"Just wanted to thank you for working with me - it was an immense help. I'm re-editing my entire body of work with a fresh eye, thinking of website possibilities, etc. Looking forward to working with you again in the future." *Suzanne Gallante 2005 *
"The progress I have had since our meeting has been in great strides. I
feel my portfolio became clearer to me. You inspired me to pursue the
exhibition avenue with my volunteer project and you also helped me
understand how relative my work was within the project.
I plan to pursue outside projects that pertain to my documentary work,
and
I thank you for pointing out the handful of avenues that are so incredibly
appropriate for my small microcosm of photojournalism. Oh! and as per your
suggestion I have partnered with a writer and he has written a piece to
accompany my photographs and we are in the process of pitching the article
as a whole to major new agencies! Your awesome advice really put the fire
under my butt like I needed, but you also gave my work validation and
purpose and order which I so desperately needed"
*Jackie Neale 2006 *
"Because I found it so valuable, I want to share this with everybody. I signed on with Barbara for her 'PWP Fall Bargain 4 Hour Special' and a bargain it was! Barbara provides an extremely stimulating, informative, and productive afternoon. She has a wealth of knowledge and creative ideas which she imparts with true generosity. Her enthusiasm seems to be boundless. By clarifying and illuminating a number of things, Barbara motivated me and gave me what I needed to galvanize into action. I highly recommend her!" *Susan Kuhlman 2005 *
"I never imagined we would have covered as much ground as we did, nor did
I
think I would have learned as much as I did. Barbara is incredibly
knowledgeable, professional and experienced. She reviewed my web site
prior
to our meeting and had a sense of who I was before we even met.
During the four hours, she reviewed the various bodies of work I have
accumulated over the years and the vast amount of slides… We discussed
possible connections, clients, promos, logos, she even reviewed my current
contract with a stock agency and was able to give very useful points. I
would highly recommend Barbara's' services, whether you're just getting
started as a photographer or someone with a lot of experience. Barbara
offers invaluable advice and knowledge."
*Nanci Nigro 2004 *
"As an emerging photographer I found it very helpful to have an actual
editor spend one on one time with me, critiquing my work and answering all
the questions I always wanted to ask... Barbara has helped me
tremendously,
from redesigning and editing the content on my website to portfolio
choices....Being an editor with an impressive history and great
connections,
her insight into the industry was invaluable.
A few hours session with her was of more value to me than any of the
seminars I have taken at the Photo Plus Expo at the Javits Center, which
are
hit or miss."
