The DAM Book: Digital Asset Management for Photographers by Peter Krogh This well-written book shows how to integrate digital photo archives within a daily streamlined workflow with the newest digital tools (Photoshop Bridge, DNG format, etc.). Filled with color photos and detailed screen shots, this book is meant for serious photographers who are well versed in digital photography and Photoshop. Recommended by Daryl-Ann Saunders

The Darkroom Cookbook by Stephen G. Anchell, Focal Press; 2nd edition (July, 2000) This book reconstructs the formulas of commercial darkroom chemicals and provides specific instructions for homemade alternatives to cope with special requirements. Who says you can’t get that developer/ fixer/ toner anymore? Go make it.

General Reading

Business and Legal Forms for Photographers by Tad Crawford, Watson-Guptill Publications; 3rd Bk&Cdr edition (January, 2002) Every photographer needs this book. If you don’t add this book to your library you may regret it later. Crawford has created what is probably the most complete book of forms for photographers. His contracts are safe and easy-to-use.

Light Matters: Writings on Photography by Vicki Goldberg, Aperture (March 15, 2005) Goldberg’s take on photography is both insightful and encompassing: her subjects range from pop imagery to war journalism, from photo-booth portraits to manipulated digital imagery, from the “boredom” of voyeurism to the great preponderance of tragic photographs in the news. She brings new light to the work of the medium’s “old masters.”

Home Photography - Inspiration on your Doorstep by Andrew Sanderson, Gardners Books (April, 2003) A reference for photographers who wish to photograph the interiors of their homes on those wintry days, or all the time for lovers of the great indoors. Recommended by Mary Newman

The Joy of Photography by Eastman Kodak Company Addison Wesley Publishing Company; 3rd edition revised & updated edition, (October, 1991) This book is packed with great, easy to follow tips from how to develop an eye for what the final result of the photograph will be, to what kind of equipment is useful for obtaining the desired results.

Pinhole Photography: Rediscovering a Historic Technique by Eric Renner, Focal Press; 3 edition (October 15, 2004) In addition to covering the basics of pinhole photography, this book has incredible narration of pinhole history, practitioners experiments and techniques, and also beautiful pictures.

Platinum and Palladium Printing by Dick Arentz, Focal Press, 2nd edition, (December, 2004) A very thorough how-to. This book covers the process in a logical, through manner.

2006 Photographers Market (Photographer’s Market) (Paperback) by Donna Poehner (Editor) When photographers look for places to sell their work, they come to Photographer’s Market. It’s the only complete directory on the market specifically for photographers.

Dachshunds Short and Long By Amanda Jones (PWP presenter), Berkley Hardcover (October 4, 2005), Amanda Jones is one of the premier animal photographers in the United States. She travels the country extensively, and has been producing elegant portraits of dogs for more than ten years.

Greyhounds Big and Small: Iggies and Greyts by Amanda Jones (PWP presenter), Berkley Hardcover (October 5, 2004) I appreciate the contrast between the Iggies and the Greyts. All around this is a greyt book that any dog lover will enjoy.

Frenchie Kisses by Amanda Jones (PWP presenter), Berkley Hardcover (January 4, 2005) The photos in this book are endearing to any French Bulldog fancier.

Hot Dogs: Single Dogs Seeking Same by Nicholas Noyes, Sterling Publishing, (October, 2005) (a book of dog photographs includes images by PWP member Ronnie Schultz) Featuring hilarious color photographs of pups of all shapes and sizes.

Sex Kittens: Single Cats Seeking Same by Chris Akins Sterling Publishing, October, 2005 (a book of cat photographs images by member Ronnie Schultz) The pictures really caught my eye in this conveniently sized hilarious photo book of kittens & cats.

Pregnant Nudes by Catherine Steinmann, Stechert MacMillan (September 1, 1994) This book is perfect for the pregnant woman, an expecting friend, or a family member. "Expectant mothers want a record of themselves during that very short period in their lives. March 2008 For more than a century, New York was the greatest port in the country, but by the 1960s the bustling commercial waterfront was disappearing. After the West Side Highway was closed in 1973, many of the abandoned piers burned, while others collapsed into the river. By the 1990s, only ghosts were left. Shelley Seccombe's photographs document this period of transition and the ongoing renewal of the Greenwich Village waterfront.
