Arlene Gottfried – Bacalaitos & Fireworks!

On Wednesday, September 5 at 6:30 pm, Arlene Gottfried will speak at Professional Women Photographers about her new book Bacalaitos & Fireworks, a collection of photographs from the 1970′s to the present of New York Puerto Rican culture.

Gottfried’s work has appeared in The New York Times Magazine, Life Magazine, Fortune, Newsweek, Rolling Stone and New York Magazine. Her work has been exhibited at the Smithsonian Institution, Noorderlicht Acts of Faith, International Fototage, FNAC Galleries, the Space Gallery, and Leica, and is included in the collection of the Brooklyn Museum of Art, the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, Chase Manhattan Bank, the New York Public Library, Haverford College, Lehigh University, and the Maison Européenne de la Photographie in Paris. Her numerous awards include the Berenice Abbott International Competition of Women’s Documentary Photography.

Gottfried also has a great interest in music and is known as the “singing photographer.€

Leslie Granda-Hill will be the curtain raiser, presenting her prize-winning images of Mexico. Granda-Hill has studied at the International Center for Photography, the Center for Photography at Woodstock, the Palm Beach Photographic Centre, and the Eddie Adams Workshop. Her images have been featured in The Wall Street Journal and national billboard campaigns, as well as in numerous films, including Julie and Julia, Baby Mama, and The Devil Wears Prada.

Wednesday, September 5 at 6:30 pm. Free for PWP members, $10 for non-members. All are welcome!
