Recent Exhibitions

On 4/23, Esther Babb participated in The Self Portrait Project, a one-day exhibition of artists from around the world, at the Brooklyn Art Library. A book will be published documenting the project. == Photographs by Paula Berg and Janice Wood Wetzel were selected for inclusion in the online gallery for the Floralexhibit at PhotoPlace Gallery in Middlebury, VT from 2/9-3/6, and images by Sandy Alpert and Diane Smook were displayed on the gallery’s walls. Also, the images of all four women were included in the exhibit catalogue, published by Blurb Books. == Irma Bohórquez-Geisler had a solo show, MEXICANation, at Snug Harbor Cultural Center in Staten Island from 4/6-30. The show was in conjunction with Immigrant Heritage Week, a citywide celebration that honors the experiences and contributions of immigrants in New York City with free or low-cost programs that build cross-cultural understanding among New Yorkers. == Susan Bowen participated in the 15th Annual Members Juried Show at Soho Photo Gallery, NYC from 6/1-5/1, and she was in Fresh Fairs 2010, at Pier 59 Studios in Santa Monica CA from 4/23-25. == Ann Brandeis exhibited several pieces from a new series at Hampton Road Gallery in Southampton, NY from 3/13-4/11, and she had work in Artists, at the same venue, from 2/13-3/7. == A solo exhibition of Elisa Decker‘s photographs, Portraits, was at the Gallery of the Office of the Manhattan Borough President, NYC from 3/3-26. == Photographs of Iceland by Patricia Gilman were in the window of Ritz Camera, NYC during the month of March. == Sandra Gottlieb had a solo show, Images of the Sea, at the Alden B. On 3/19, Trish had two photographs in Harlem: Our Shared Global Culture, which was part of the 1st Annual Harlem Arts Alliance International Arts Event. == Debbie Miracolo had work in The Sweet Escape, at the Morean Arts Center in St. Petersburg, FL from 1/15-3/13. == Laurie Rhodes had work in an international documentary photography exhibition, Building an Ethical Economy: Theology and the Marketplace, at the Trinity Church Museum, NYC from 1/25-4/5. The show was in conjunction with Trinity Institute’s annual theological conference of the same name. == Sindi Schorr and Robin Glasser Sacknoff had images in La Dolce Vita: Impressions of Italy from Il Chiostro Workshops 1995-2009, at Broome Street Gallery, NYC from 3/23-4/4. == Janice Wood Wetzel and Deena Weintraub were the co-curators for Trash, at the West Side Arts Coalition, NYC from 3/3-21. == This year’s PWP Student Awards exhibition showed black and white images on the theme of Water. The exhibition was at the Ernest Rubenstein Gallery at the Educational Alliance, NYC from 3/21-4/1. PWP members donated photographs and services for a silent auction at the reception.

On 4/26, Irma Bohórquez-Geisler showed several photographs to accompany an academic talk on “Emigration and the Mexican State,” at Barnard College, NYC. == Ruth Gitto is conducting one-day photography workshops from April through October. Her Foto Safaris, using New York City as subject matter, will take place once a week, and will be limited to five participants per Safari. PWP members can receive a 25% discount. == Laurie Klein offered three workshops at her home studio during February and March. == On 4/14, Andy Mars presented a Mixed Media Photography Workshop at her New York apartment. == Birgit Pohl recently sold two Polaroid transfers to a collector in Westchester. == Roz Rosenblum will judge two photography competitions in May. On 5/3 at 6:30 p.m., she’ll be at the Manhattan Miniature Camera Club, Community Church, 28 East 35th Street, NYC, and on 5/24 at 8 p.m., she’ll be at the Ocean County Camera Club, Lakewood High School Library, 855 Somerset Avenue, Lakewood, NJ. On 4/8, Roz presented a lecture, “The Art of Seeing€ at the Vailsburg Camera Club in Springfield, NJ, and on 4/19, and she presented “Australia/New Zealand€ to the Photographers of Sussex County in Augusta, NJ. Also, on 4/15, Roz judged a competition at the Color Photographers Club of Staten Island, and she also judged two camera competitions in March and three in February. == Daryl-Ann Saunders was selected to participate in a new Artist-in-Residency program launched by the Brooklyn Arts Council (BAC), in partnership with the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs and the New York City Department for the Aging. At the Diana H. Jones Senior Citizen Center in Bushwick, Brooklyn, Daryl-Ann will set up a photo studio for six months. Then, she’ll work on her proposed project, The Pioneers of Bushwick, which will commemorate long-term residents through portrait sessions and written text of their experiences. Monica Barnes edits Andean Past, an academic journal dedicated to the archaeology and ethno-history of western South America, which is published by Cornell University. Volume 9 is now available, and can be purchased at: http://www.einaudi.cornell.edu/latinamerica/publications/journals.asp == One photograph by Irma Bohórquez-Geisler was published in the Staten Island Advance on 4/15, and articles by Irma were published in Diario de Mexico, USA on 4/15 and 4/19. == A photo by Ann Brandeis is included in Best of Photography 2009, which was released by Serbin Productions in December. == An article by Elisa Decker, in which she reviews an exhibition by Joseph Stashkevetch, was published in the January 2010 issue of Art in America (see p. 116). == A two-page spread about Marilyn Fish-Glynn is featured in 100 New York Photographers, by Cynthia Dantzic, recently published by Schiffer. Marilyn was honored by the invitation to participate in this book, which includes many iconic figures, spanning over fifty years of work. Alyce Mayo and several former PWP members also have images in the book, including a 1937 photograph by Rebecca Lepkoff. == In January, National Wildlife Magazine announced that Holly Gordon won first place in the global warming category of their annual photography competition. She was in Haiti in January when the earthquake happened, and her astute, compassionate photos appeared in print and online in The New York Times.
