11th and 12th Grades
Professional Women Photographers is very
pleased to announce the winners for its Fifth Annual Student Awards program,
established for young women enrolled in a New
York City high school, with a talent
in and enthusiasm for photography. This year there were two categories for
submissions, 9th and 10th grades, and 11th and
12th grades.
The first prizes of $500 each were awarded to Diana Navarette of Columbia Grammar High School for 11th and 12th grade division and Vicki Mercado of Brooklyn College Academy for 9th and 10th grade division. These prizes were made possible by a generous donation from Hunton & Williams, LLP.
The second prizes of $250 each were awarded to Layla Almasaddzhidi of John Dewey High School and Amy Chen of Townsend Harris HS. These prizes were made possible in part by a donation from Fujifilm USA.
The third prizes of $100 each were awarded to Lizette Trevino of Fashion Industries High School and Ruby Strassman of Columbia Grammar High School. These awards were made possible by a generous donation from Catherine and David Steinmann.
Honorable mention awards of a Gift Certificate for one printed image from Duggal Vision Solutions were given to Alley Burdick of Frank Sinatra HS and Anyssa Campbell of Brooklyn College Academy.
All award recipients also received a tripod kit courtesy of Bogen Imaging.
The submissions were juried by a panel composed of David H. Wells, the Narrative Photographer and Lighting Expert, David Lowe, Assistant to the Photography Curator at the New York Public Library, and Kathleen Duxbury-Yeaw, working in Infrared (IR) spectrum, her images are an artistic interpretation of the "invisible light" found on her treks through Europe and North America.
