Professional Women Photographers is very pleased to announce the winners for its second year of Student Awards, established for young women juniors or seniors enrolled in a New York City public high school, with a talent in photography, and with financial need, to help with their photographic supplies, equipment, or tuition fees.
The $1000 First Prize will go to Mazouza Tayeh of Abraham Lincoln High School, Brooklyn. Two Honorable Mention Awards of $250, thanks to a generous donation by Fujifilm, will go to Alexia Arthurs of John Dewey High School, Brooklyn and Candy Collado of High School for Law and Public Service, Manhattan. All award recipients will also receive a tripod kit courtesy of Bogen Imaging.
Winners’ work will be displayed at the Awards Ceremony hosted by Pratt Institute Manhattan, on March 23, 2006, from 6-8PM, and can be seen also on the PWP website. All three applicants demonstrated exciting burgeoning talent, and a thoughtful commitment to the art of photography.
The submissions were juried by a panel composed of Kira Pollack, deputy photo editor of The New York Times Magazine, Mel Rosenthal, the Director of Photography at Empire State College, and Bob Shamis, curator of print and photography at the Museum of the City of New York.
